MANSA

Almost a day's drive north of Lusaka, past Kasanka National Park and Lake Bangweulu, the town of Mansa is a hub of commercial activity in a picturesque setting on the Mansa River. In addition to the St. Clemens Boys’ Boarding School, a native village and the Kapisha Hot Springs, Mansa is host to a number of produce markets.   The river access next to the quarry is spectacular, with large boulders and rock ledges lining the river, allowing for great fishing and boating opportunities.

Located in the center of an area rich in cultural heritage and natural beauty, Mansa offers sightseeing and recreational opportunities in Samfya, at Ntumba Chushi Falls, Pembe Lagoon, Mumbuluma Falls and Gorge, Mberishi Church and cemetery, not to mention the rafting of the Luongo river. En route to Mambilima, the area near Kawama village, in the Luaula river valley is particularly scenic and very photogenic.

Hachanga Disabled village, Monze, Zambia

MONZE

Monze, a town about 2.5 hours south of Lusaka, along the road to Livingstone, supports a population of 20,000, primarily engaged in farming. The surrounding geography is relatively flat, predominantly cultivated farmland. The nearest large body of water is the Kafue River in Mazabuka, about 40 minutes north of Monze.   A number of tourism development possibilities were identified in Lochinvar National Park to the west, the Hachanga Resevoir and Village to the east, and down the escarpment towards Siavonga.

Shiwa House,  Mpika, Zambia

SHIWA

In the district of Chinsali, near the town of Mpika northeast of Lusaka, an amazing estate dominates the region. Owned by the grandchildren of its founder, Sir Stewart Gore Browne, Shiwa still captivates with the grandeur and mistique of a colonial past. Elevated above the terrain with a view of Shiwa Ngandu, the lake of the royal crocodiles, protected from north winds by a mountain range, the Shiwa estate has no game left with the exception of crocodiles in the lake and the river that runs through the property. The owners plan to resurrect a game reserve to be stocked in part with wildlife from North Luangwa National Park, and plan to market Shiwa House as a destination for hunting and other activities that may be developed on the estate or surrounding areas.

Victoria Falls,  Livingstone, Zambia

LIVINGSTONE

Forming the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia, the mighty Zambezi River tumbles down into a one-mile wide, 300-foot deep, cravass that forms the famous Victoria Falls. The nearby town of Livingstone offers a rich cultural, historical, and natural diversity that extends beyond safari camps and sightseeing. From river rafting to cultural festivals, from museums to horseback riding, the town promotes itself as an adventure destination. Tourism providers rely heavily on the tourist overflow from Zimbabwe. Over the past year, tourism in Zimbabwe has suffered due to the political unrest, and the downturn has impacted the tourism influx into Livingstone.
